Howard and his wife moved to Canterbury in 2018. Although now retired, Howard has considerable experience working in the public and commercial sectors, as a senior lecturer higher education, a governor of a school for children with severe learning difficulties and in the public sector as a senior manager and consultant, working for national, international and local government organisations.
Howard has spent several years abroad working in West Africa and the Caribbean, as an education consultant, assisting in the development of technical and vocational qualifications, but he has the last 30 years of his career implementing and supporting business information technology solutions for an international charity, the national tourism organisations and a London borough. Throughout this period Howard was responsible for the implementation and support of large-scale technical infrastructure projects, managing more than 100 staff and budgets running in to tens of millions of pounds sterling.
Howard feels that he now has the time and the enthusiasm to use his public and commercial experience in the service of the local community. Having worked for a number of government bodies, Howard understands the value and the impact of public services to the community. He is passionate about ensuring the maximum benefit to the community of increasingly scarce resources, and has the relevant management experience to ensure that local services are delivered efficiently.
