Jean Butcher has been a stalwart of the local Labour party for decades. As a councillor for Northgate ward, which has a high level of deprivation, she sees first hand families trying to make ends meet. The stark choice between heating or eating is a constant reality for many in Canterbury
Jean has lived in Canterbury all her life and loves the place – that’s why she became a councillor – not just to talk the talk, but to actively improve the lives of the residents she represents.
She is a mother and grandmother and her family is very important to her. They too are struggling with the cost of living crisis – there is always more month than money.
Jean worked for the NHS for nearly 40 years and still works as a health care assistant at her local hospice.
